Riesling is best known as one of the white grape varieties of Germany where it makes many styles including the famous Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese wines. The grapes required to make such botrytis style wines in Australia are only available when certain climatic conditions allow the “noble rot” botrytis cinerea to grow. Such conditions occurred in central Victoria during the 2010 harvest. Despite the grapes looking like dehydrated brown mouldy raisins the winemakers at Blue Pyrenees recognised this isolated “clean” version of mould was capable of making something special.
Tasting Notes
| Colour: |
Bright gold |
| Aroma: |
Tropical marmalade and honey notes from the botrytis dominate
the aromas. |
| Flavour: |
Although the concentrated honey and pineapple flavours are clearly enhanced by sweetness, they are also balanced by refreshing acidity, a phenomena of botrytis concentration. This is a delightful botrytis wine to match with many style dessert dishes. |
