Description

WINE CLUB: $50.00 – exclusive to wine club members.
Two bottle limit per customer.

Eyes

Bright ruby red.

Nose

Fragrant ripe blueberry fruit aromas plus earth, spice & toasty oak.

Mouth

Dark fruits & licorice intermingled with forest undergrowth notes precede a long lasting, fine tannin Rosemary flavoured finish. The medium weight but firm structure & fruit vibrancy of this wine ensure it has many possible food matches.

Winemaking Notes

The Blue Pyrenees Estate Section One Shiraz wine was formerly known as Reserve Shiraz but year after year the majority of this wine is made from the oldest Shiraz vines known as ‘Section One’ or block one of the Estate Vineyard. So from 2013 the new name Section One was adopted for the wine made from these 40 year old vines. These robust old vines weather the variable vintage conditions better than any others & exhibit strong regional & varietal characters when approaching maturity. The grapes are co-fermented to dryness in open & closed fermenters with a small amount of Viognier grapes before gentle pressing to extract all the colour, flavour & natural tannin from the skins. After pressing the wine is racked to barrels, new to four year old French & American oak barriques for secondary fermentation & 24 months maturation before final barrel selection, blending of those barrels & a light egg white fining before bottling.

Four gold medals already stamped on this new release and I’m predicting more to come. This wine follows the 2013 vintage which proved to be one of the winery’s best releases. Blueberry and spice shine through.

Winewise Magazine - Professional

Here we have very fresh dark berry, floral, spice, pepper and mint aromas. The palate is long, with a firm, savouryfinish.

Shiraz 99%, viognier 1%. These are the oldest shiraz vines on the property, planted in the 70’s. 24 months in French and American oak barriques. No mistaking the intensity imparted by the vine age. Real depth on the bouquet and palate, with dense blackberry and blueberry characters, chocolate and spice, and a distinctive Pyrenees feel. Plenty to come as well.
