Deep ruby red.
- Nose
Ripe red plum notes over red berry fruit, forest floor complexity & classy cedar oak aromas.
- Mouth
A big mouthful of ripe berries up front, complimented by tobacco leaves, mushroom & cedary oak characters. The big but even palate structure of this blended red is framed by abundant yet integrated fine grain tannins & delivers a traditional old world style, suitable for aging, with lingering fresh berry & choc-mint flavours.
- Winemaking Notes
The Pyrenees region of Australia is best known for its bold savoury red wines & the “Estate” from Blue Pyrenees uses blending of the Estate vineyard’s best components to consistently reinforce this reputation. The 2015/2016 growing season provided limited winter & spring rains followed by a warm dry autumn & summer, which resulted in below average size crops, no disease pressure & made it easy to produce ripe concentrated flavoursome red grapes. The individual vineyard components were kept separate, initially in 15 tonne static & three tonne open fermenters, then also while maturing in new (40%), two year-old (30%) & four year-old (30%) French oak barriques for a full 24 months. Final selections, then blending, a light egg white fining & bottling all occurred in September 2018.
Reviews
Sam Kim
Classically expressed and beautifully fragrant, the bouquet shows dark fruit richness together with attractive notes of bouquet garni, game, cedar and mixed spice, leading to a finely textured palate that is supple and flowing. The wine offers gorgeous complexity and textural mouthfeel, firmly structured by fine, grainy tannins, finishing bold, persistent and engaging. A blend of 81% cabernet sauvignon, 14% merlot and 5% malbec. At its best: now to 2026.
