Deep ruby red colour.
- Nose
Aromas of blueberry fruit, licorice and cardamom pods all supported by classy French oak influences.
- Mouth
The blueberry, black olive, rosemary and spice flavours are all fruit derived but they have been built into a wine of great structure by careful tannin extraction, and the use of top quality French oak. The long lasting spicy aftertaste is a delightful way to finish this Shiraz.
- Winemaking Notes
This Richardson Reserve Shiraz is produced from the most exceptional batch of grapes identified by the Blue Pyrenees team as “better than
ever”, the same philosophy established in the 1990s to create exceptional Blue Pyrenees red wine as a tribute to the late Colin Richardson. This wine was vinified & then, unusually for Blue Pyrenees, matured in 100% new oak, before final blending & preparation for bottling. The nominated 2013 Shiraz grapes always displayed intense varietal characters as they reached optimum ripeness & balance on the vine in the near perfect red grape growing season of 2012/2013. Vinification included warm fermentation & extended skin contact for 2 weeks, before 24 months maturation in new French & American oak barriques ensuring complexity, smoothness & integration of all the flavour components & fine tannin before bottling in June 2015.

Tells a convincing story of where it comes from with its concentration of flavours. Full-bodied, richly fruited yet full of earthy, spicy, smoky-meaty nuances with big stern tannins, slightly drying from the oak – 100% new French and American aged 2 years. Drinking well now but it’ll last some considerable distance.

‘Wow’ exclaimed one judge when tasting this wine. ‘Beautiful complexity – very French’. Has a superb Shiraz palate – great structure. Excellent for its age.
