Two bottle limit per customer.

Eyes

Bright ruby red.

Nose

Fragrant blueberry like fruit plus herbs, spice and toasty oak.

Mouth

Dark fruits and licorice intermingled with forest undergrowth notes precede a long lasting, fine tannin fruit and oak flavoured finish. The medium weight but firm structure and vibrancy of this wine ensure it has many possible food matches.

Winemaking Notes

The Blue Pyrenees Reserve Shiraz 2013 is made predominantly from select parcels of mature vine Shiraz grapes (40 years old) from our estate vineyard , that exhibit strong regional and varietal characters when approaching maturity. These parcels of grapes are fermented to dryness in open fermenters with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon
grapes before gentle pressing to extract all the colour, flavour and natural tannin from the skins. After pressing the wine is racked to barrels, new to eight year old French and American oak barriques for secondary fermentation & then 18 months maturation before final barrel selection, blending of those barrels, and a light egg white fining before bottling.

Formerly known as Blue Pyrenees Reserve Shiraz, this classic cool-climate wine is now named after the single block from which the vast majority of the fruit is sourced from the estate vineyard each year. This was one of my favourites from last weekend’s excellent Grampians Grape Escape; powerful but controlled. It contains tiny portions of viognier and cabernet sauvignon to add lift and brightness but its core is rich shiraz from 40-year-old vines. French and American oak is used for seasoning and the end result is a dark, plummy, medium-weight wine with a potpourri of spice elements that will cellar well for a decade or more. I’ll give it 95 points—which makes it great value.

Winestate Magazine - Professional

A classy wine with delightful aromas of blackberry, pepper and sweet mint. Similar characters echoed on the palate. Has great texture and chewy gravelly tannins.

Here is a Victorian winery that knows how to produce a quality wine and how to do it on a regular basis. A battery of gold medals already on the bottle and more to come.

Deep colour. Very attractive aromas of blackberry, white pepper, violets and kirsch with subtle oak in the background. Dry, full and powerful with chewy savoury tannins , great power and length—a deserved 4 trophy winner.

Blasts out of the glass with regional scents of white pepper, eucalyptus and red berry fruitiness. In the palate, more medium bodied that expected with suede textured tannins and a zing of frisky acidity. A smooth ride through the mouth. Finishes with nice pucker and grit. Seductive.

Formerly labelled ‘Reserve’, from the oldest (40yo) section of the vineyard; includes 2% viognier and 1% cabernet sauvignon co-fermented in open and closed fermenters, 2 weeks on skins, matured in new and used French and American oak (40% new) for 24 months. Four trophies, plus two gold medals all from the Riverina or Western Victoria Wine Shows, one gold from the National Cool Climate Wine Show 2015. This is an attractive single block selection, medium bodied shiraz with good oak and tannin management, and perfectly ripe fruit.
