- Winemaking Notes
The Pyrenees region of Australia is best known for its bold savoury red wines & the “Estate” from Blue Pyrenees uses blending of the Estate vineyard’s best components to consistently re-enforce this reputation. The 2012/2013 growing season provided ideal winter & spring rains followed by a mild summer, then a warm dry autumn, which was near perfect for producing ripe flavoursome red grapes. The individual vineyard components were kept separate, initially in 15 tonne static & 3 tonne open fermenters, then also while maturing in new (40%), two year-old (30%) & four year-old (30%) French oak barriques for a full 24 months. Final selections, then the blending, a light egg white fining & bottling all occurred in June 2015.

Mike Bennie
A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot with a splash of shiraz and malbec, this is a beautifully poised and elegant red that offers drinkers deep blue and black fruit aromas and flavours with a hint of regional herbal character and a switch of fine, grainy tannins. Drinking now is great but I wager that this will mature superbly.

A measured, stylish Bordeaux blend with style and structure. Its earthy, floral bouquet of pristine small red berries, blackcurrants, dark plums and fresh cedary and faintly cigarboxy oak is laced with scents of musk, violets and a whiff of pepper. Long and supple, with a a lingering presence of intense small berry fruit and tight-grained oak, it’s underpinned by a drying spine of fine tannins that becomes more mineral and graphite-like with aeration. Wrapped in a fresh acidity, it’s an essay in restrained strength and harmony.

February 14, 2017 13:00This impressive blend of cabernet, merlot, shiraz and malbec is the estate’s signature wine. The colour is bright and youthful; the bouquet is rich in black fruits with a lick of mint and the tannins are ample and balanced, contributing to an opulent, fleshy texture. Full-bodied and generous, it will age superbly.

73% cabernet sauvignon, 19% merlot, with shiraz and malbec both at 4% makes a harmonious blend. Bursting with dark red plums, cherries, wood spices, there’s mint/menthol but not too much, oak integrated and adds to the sleek full-bodied palate and sits comfortably in its savoury profile.

This is a rich dark berry/cassis style that is packed with flavour. Hints of mint and bay leaf add complexity, and the tannins are fine and firm.

A standout at the recent Six Nations Wine Challenge highlighting “New World” wines, this long-standing cabernet sauvignon-led four variety blend from Victoria’s Pyrenees Ranges proved a worthy trophy winner with its powerfully integrated amalgam of rich, opulent flavours.
