Deep ruby red.
Distinctly ripe Pyrenees Shiraz with blackberry fruit, licorice and pepper notes all supported by classy French and American oak influences.
The blueberry, liquorice, black olive and spice flavours are all fruit derived but they have been crafted into a wine of great mouth feel by careful oak and tannin management. The long lasting spicy aftertaste is a delightful way to finish this Shiraz.
- Winemaking Notes
The Richardson Series of wines are produced from exceptional batches of grapes identified by the Blue Pyrenees winemakers as having the potential to make an iconic varietal red wine as a tribute to the late Colin Richardson, whose signature graces the label. The 2012 Richardson Shiraz is predominantly from the oldest (Block One) Shiraz vines on the Blue Pyrenees Estate vineyard. These grapes displayed a great intensity of regional and varietal Shiraz characters as they reached optimum ripeness and balance. Vinification included a tiny amount of co-fermented Viognier, cold soaking pre-ferment, warm primary ferment, and then 2 weeks extended maceration on skins. Secondary fermentation and 22 months maturation in new and two year old French and American oak barriques ensured complexity, smoothness and integration of all flavour components before bottling in February 2014.

An outstanding, profound Shiraz of immense cellar potential. The colour is deep and dark, the bouquet extremely rich and ripe. The palate has tremendous density and fleshy extract, great length and abundant soft tannins.
Cooler-climate style—quite Rhone-like in character, with excellent fruit and a complex combo between the oak, tannin and acid.
Deep, dark red/purple; excellent colour. An extremely rich, ripe, concentrated bouquet of dark plum and spice, smoky earthy notes and great density and fleshy extract. A profound shiraz, superbly structured and built for long aging. Very good length and abundant soft tannins.
This spicy, 14.5 per cent alcohol, cool-climate shiraz is named in honour of esteemed wine judge and educator Colin Richardson, who worked for Blue Pyrenees for many years up until his death in 1999.
It is crimson with purple tints and has scents of briar and liquorice. Lifted blackcurrant flavour zips onto the front of the palate and Maraschino cherry, dark chocolate and black olive fruit characters integrate with savoury oak on the middle palate. Chalky tannins come through at the finish.
The fresh, concentrated blackberry/mulberry aromas are enhanced by those of dried herbs. The palate offers excellent fruit backed by firm tannins and integrated oak.
